Thomas Ashe
Thomas Ashe, who had fought at Ashbourne in 1916, died in the Mater Hospital after being force-fed while on hunger strike in Mountjoy Prison. His death, and the funeral that followed, became one of the largest public demonstrations of the revolutionary period.
